The A380 MSN 001 is the first A380 being built and flewn (27th April 2005). It is operated by Airbus Industrie as a Test Aircraft and registered as F-WWOW. Unlike other A380, which were temporarily used for test and demonstration purposes and later sold to customers, the "A number one" will remain in possesion of Airbus.

The 001 is equipped with HUD and a large g-meter (see PANEL) to perform any kind of flight tests even in NORMAL mode while flight-envelope-projection is disabled. Vne is unbelieveable MACH 0.96. Highest speed demonstrated in level flight is MACH 0.95, with the engines still not at their limit. Below the tail section of the fuselage an amber reinforcment plate is installed with a skid which can be lowered. This skid has been used to prevent the fuselage from tail strike damage during VMU tests (minimum speed). The second video shows that this protection was not as perfect as the engineers had expected...

During it's final months in Airbus House Colors the A380 MSN 007 visited many airports throughout the world, in particular in the USA and Canada. It was initially equipped with RR Trent 900 engines, and as such classified as A380-841. It was operated Airbus Industrie as a Test Aircraft and registered as F-WWJB from 2006 to 2009, when it was converted into a A380-861 with Engine Alliance GP7200 engines, re-registered as A6-EDF, and sold to Emirates Airlines.
